Candlestick Park Information

Candlestick Park is located in San Francisco, California and is one of the oldest Major League Baseball stadiums in the country. Although, the main building reason was to be the home of The San Francisco Giants, who played in the stadium from 1960 until 2000, it is now home to the San Francisco 49ers. Construction began in 1958 and the gates opened on April 12th, 1960. From the beginning, Candlestick Park was built to be used for sporting and entertainment events.

In 1993, there were several significant changes made to the stadium in order to ensure that it was more fan friendly. The most important of these was addition new bleacher section closer to the action. The stadium seats around 70,000 people and was the first modern stadium built using reinforced concrete.

Candlestick Park is known mostly for holding 49ers games but it does hold other events occasionally. One of the most famous events that have taken place here is a concert by the Beatles in 1966, which turned out to be their last live one. It made history though during the earthquake that hit San Francisco on October 17, 1989 but miraculously nobody was hurt, a fact later credited to the materials used for construction.
