Heinz Field is home to the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panthers. The stadium has other uses as well as concerts do take place on occasion. Construction began on the stadium in 1999 in which it opened on August 24th, 2001 and the Steelers home opener was October 7, 2001. The capacity for the stadium is 65,050 seats. Steel was used for the stadium as though it seemed proper given the name of the hometown team as well as the toughness that is associated with fans and the city. It has been known as one of the toughest places to play with the Steeler fans waving yellow towels throughout the stadium.
