Founded in 1970 in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, Gardner-Webb Bulldogs Football brings FCS grit to Ernest W. Spangler Stadium. The 9,000-seat venue feels close to the action, especially when the Sound of the Springs Marching Bulldogs kick in and the pregame Dawg Walk meets Tailgate Alley. The Runnin’ Bulldogs own Big South crowns in 2002, 2003, and 2022, plus the 2023 Big South-OVC title, and reached the 1992 NAIA national championship game.

Fans still talk about the 2022 FCS Playoffs win at Eastern Kentucky and the leadership of coach Tre Lamb that season. Alumni like Super Bowl champion Gabe Wilkins and linebacker Jim Maxwell add pro pedigree. Each year, bragging rights heat up in the North-South BBQ Bowl against Charleston Southern. Expect a welcoming campus vibe, loud student sections, and classic Carolina tailgates that turn Saturdays into can’t-miss memories.
