Born in 1893 in Washington, D.C., Howard University Bison football channels the spirit of The Mecca every fall. The program has stacked multiple HBCU national championships and MEAC titles, highlighted by an undefeated 1993 run behind quarterback Jay Walker and a tradition of sending talent like Pro Bowl safety Antoine Bethea to the pros. In 2017, freshman Caylin Newton led Howard to a 45-point-spread shocker over UNLV, a moment that still electrifies Bison fans.

Home games at William H. Greene Stadium blend campus pride with classic HBCU pageantry: the Showtime Marching Band, lively tailgates, and a student section that keeps the Yard buzzing from kickoff to the final whistle. Whether it is showdowns with Hampton in the Battle of the Real HU or MEAC play, the gameday vibe feels equal parts community gathering and statement of purpose.
