Born in 2005 in Rome, Georgia, Shorter University Hawks football packs Barron Stadium, a 6,500-seat downtown venue where a lively student section, close sightlines and pregame tailgates create a neighborly, big-game feel. The Hawks’ fans mingle with the Rome community just steps from campus, turning Saturdays into a city gathering that’s as welcoming as it is loud.

On the field, Shorter flashed early pedigree with the 2008 Mid-South West Division championship, a nine-win season, a No. 11 NAIA ranking and the program’s first NAIA playoff berth. A signature moment followed in 2010 when the Hawks played in front of 30,000-plus at the Georgia Dome for Georgia State’s inaugural game, then advanced to full NCAA Division II membership in 2014 to battle in the Gulf South. Founding coach Phil Jones and alumnus Zach Morrison helped shape that identity.
