Southern Jaguars Football has been bringing Baton Rouge together since 1916, when the program took root on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. Competing in the SWAC at the FCS level, Southern has stacked up multiple HBCU national championships and numerous conference titles, cementing a proud standard that spans generations.

Fans pack A.W. Mumford Stadium for a game-day soundtrack led by the Human Jukebox and an electric student section, with tailgating that starts early and ends late. Legends like head coach Ace Mumford and Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams still shape the program’s identity, while the annual Bayou Classic against Grambling State turns Thanksgiving weekend in New Orleans into a statewide celebration.
