The Imperials were a Nashville rhythm and blues outfit also known as The Imperial Seven, a club and studio band that sparked Music City in the early 1960s. They cut punchy instrumentals for regional labels, including the Hermitage single "Really (Part I)" backed with "Really (Part II)" and the Athens release "Soft Shoe" b/w "Midnight Tom," both in 1964. The Hermitage disc was credited to Johnny Jones and the Imperial Seven, spotlighting Jones' crisp guitar lines. Their concise sides bottle the energy of Southern rooms where soul and blues met, and they remain prized by collectors and fans of Nashville's R&B heritage.
