Proudly rooted in Wingate, North Carolina, the Wingate Bulldogs football program kicked off in 1986 and has grown into a Division II contender fans love to follow. Saturdays at Irwin Belk Stadium on John R. Martin Field feel close and loud, with tailgates ringing the campus and the Bulldog Walk drawing blue and gold to greet the team. The student section and marching band keep the energy high from warmups to the final whistle.

On the field, Wingate owns South Atlantic Conference crowns in 2010, 2017 and 2024, plus multiple NCAA Division II playoffs bids, including a 2010 first-round win and a 2022 run to the national quarterfinals. Standouts like NFL draft pick David Jones and longtime head coach Joe Reich helped set the standard, while annual SAC showdowns with Lenoir-Rhyne or Catawba add extra edge.
