Georgia Dome Information
The Georgia Dome is home to the Atlanta Falcons. It first opened in 1992 and is noted for being the largest indoor sporting arena in the USA. It has a permanent capacity of 71,250 besides club seats, Penthouse suites, executive suites, super suites. The stadium also has the facility to accommodate the disables as well as space for C-5 military planes.
Many annual events are also held at Georgia Dome, such as the Southeastern Conference Football Championship Game and the Chick-fil-A Bowl. On top of that the Sugar Bowl of 2006 took place here. Georgia Dome is also known for hosting basketball events and was even home to the NBA league Atlanta Hawks from 1997 – 1999 and hosted the basketball competition Final Four in both 2002 and 2007.
It is also famous for the natural disasters that have caused damage to this stadium. The most recent happened on March 14, 2008 when a tornado hit the area and ripped a couple of holes in the dome during a basketball game. Water problems have also caused problems, such as in 2007 when tremendous amounts of rainfall caused a pipe to burst and flooded the dome and in 1995 when water collected on the roof and eventually broke through it.
