At the Gates helped define the Gothenburg melodic death metal sound. Emerging from Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1990, the band sharpened ferocity with razor-hook melody, reaching a landmark with "Slaughter of the Soul." After an influential 90s run and a hiatus, they roared back with "At War with Reality," then deepened their scope on "To Drink from the Night Itself" and "The Nightmare of Being." Onstage, vocalist Tomas Lindberg commands with a fervent bark while guitarists Anders Björler and Martin Larsson weave cutting harmonies over Jonas Björler and Adrian Erlandsson's relentless engine. Shows move from whiplash riffing to brooding dynamics, built for catharsis in the pit and precision from the stage.
