Founded in 1938 in Youngstown, Ohio, Youngstown State Penguins football has long punched above its weight in the FCS. The Penguins claimed four national championships in 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1997, with additional title-game trips including 2016, plus multiple conference crowns. Guided for years by coach Jim Tressel and inspired by alumni like quarterback Ron Jaworski, the program blends blue-collar grit with modern ambition.

Game days at Stambaugh Stadium, nicknamed the Ice Castle, deliver a loud, close-to-the-field experience. Tailgates roll across campus as the YSU Marching Pride leads chants, and the student section keeps the energy high deep into Valley autumn. From red-and-white towels to postgame celebrations on the concourse, fans turn every Saturday into a community gathering that welcomes first-timers and lifers alike.
