Charlie Puth and Hailee Steinfeld Announce 2018 North American Tour
December 19, 2017
It didnt take long for Charlie Puth to get big enough to headline his very own North American tour.
Puth, who opened for Shawn Mendes during his tour in 2017, is now embarking upon the Voicenotes tour in 2018, and hell bring some big name help with him as well.Hailee Steinfeld will open for Puth during the tour, bringing her small but mighty collection of hits to the stage, much as she did for Meagan Trainors tour in 2016.It was a massive year for both Puth and Steinfeld. Puths hit Attention was one of the biggest hits by a male pop singer this year, and was lauded by the New York Times pop music critic Jon Caramanica as one of the best pop songs of 2017. In a male pop world dominated by both rappers and R&B singers, Puths approach is decidedly different. At times he sings in almost a whispering tone, using an imperfect, strained vocal approach that feels authentic and inviting. As Caramanica described Attention, which is fitting for most of Puths catalogue, its mean, low, desperate, and yet somehow glistening.Steinfelds talents reach far beyond the music studio, where she is also an A-list actress with two Oscar nominations to her credit already in her young career. But 2017 cemented her as a fixture in the pop music realm. The success of Starving bled over into 2017, and Steinfeld then followed it up with a pair of monstrous hits. First, there was the feminist anthem Most Girls, a unique and fresh take on female empowerment. Then she released perhaps her most mature song to date, Let Me Go, a collaboration with Alesso and country duo Florida Georgia Line. Let Me Go is a song ostensibly about being a lousy partner, but not being willing to take the step to end it, but rather hoping theyll just leave on their own.
