Historic Royal Rumble Card Includes Mens And Womens Rumble Matches

The Royal Rumble is one of the WWEs three biggest events every year, but this year, theyve perhaps made it the most monumental.
For the first time ever, the company will hold a womens Royal Rumble match, a near-identical version of the iconic mens match which has been a staple of the company since the late 1980s.There is an unprecedented amount of female talent on the WWE main roster and in the WWE ecosystem right now. For many years, women in the WWE were portrayed as little more than sex symbolseither as valets for male performers, or as wrestlers, but placed in degrading scenarios. Frankly, WWE lagged about 30 years behind Japan, which had been producing otherworldly womens matches involving legends such as Aja Kong, Manami Toyota and Akira Hokuto.Coinciding with the introduction of the NXT brand and farm system, the WWE began signing top-flight womens wrestlers from organizations such as SHIMMER, and hired Sara Del Ray, regarded as one of the best womens wrestlers ever, to oversee their training at the WWE Performance Center. Whats resulted is a tremendously deep division that has even reached into the Japanese ranks for stars such as Asuka and Kairi Sane.Theres been more than enough talent in the womens division to hold a Royal Rumble for a few years now, but its finally happening at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
