It’s been three years since Justin Bieber released new music, but rumors are heating up that the Canadian pop star is on track to release a new album by the end of 2015. Recently featured on the Jack U song “Where Are U Now,” Bieber will next headline Billboard’s first-ever Hot 100 Music Festival this weekend (Aug. 22-23) in New York.

It’s unlikely that Billboard would book Bieber for the two-day festival unless he has new material in the works. All of the Hot 100 Festival’s other major headliners (Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Lil Wayne, and Skrillex) have either dropped a new album within the last year or already announced a release date for a future project.
Billboard has also been hyping the new festival on social media with updates that pair Bieber with EDM giant Skrillex. They already recorded the top 10 single “Where Are U Now” together, but continued collaboration between the two is inviting speculation that the new Justin Bieber album will have more of an electronic/dance sound than his previous R&B style.
There have been other indications that EDM may be a main focus of the “Baby” singer’s new music. On Aug. 22, the day before he headlines the Hot 100 Fest, Bieber is scheduled to perform in his native Canada at Quebec’s Beachclub. In the last year, the same dance venue has also hosted global powerhouse DJs Hardwell, Tiesto, and Armin van Buuren.
Beyond the rumors sparked by Bieber’s upcoming Hot 100 Festival appearance, the singer has been cryptically counting down to a big summer announcement on his social media accounts. With the help of celebrity friends like Usher, Ariana Grande, Luke Bryan, Ed Sheeran, and many others, Bieber started counting down 30 days to Aug. 28. He’s been using the catchphrase “What Do You Mean,” which is reportedly the title of his new single.
He first played the song to industry leaders at the iHeartMedia Music Summit earlier this month, but it looks like fans will have to wait until next Friday to hear the new track for themselves.
According to unconfirmed reports, Billboard posted that the new Justin Bieber album may be released on Nov. 13. As of Aug. 19, no one from Bieber’s camps has confirmed or denied that report.
