Super Bowl 2015
It looks like millions of football fans will be getting a prismatic concert experience come February. According to an Oct. 9 report from Billboard, pop star Katy Perry has been chosen to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2015. After last year’s joint performance from Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the upcoming Katy Perry Super Bowl show will hearken back to two years ago when fellow pop queen Beyoncé stole the show in New Orleans. Given Perry’s latest concert tour supporting 2013’s Prism, she won’t have a hard time energizing fans in attendance at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., during the game on Feb. 1.
Coming off the success of her Prismatic World Tour, Perry is an obvious choice to headline the Super Bowl halftime show this year. The colorful singer launched her international trek in May and has performed in front of hundreds of thousands of fans around the globe with an unrelenting stage show that’s ripe with an army of backup dancers, vibrant set and lighting designs, and, in true Katy Perry fashion, multiple costume changes. This week Perry will wrap up the tour’s North American leg with shows in Houston (Oct. 10-11) and Monterrey, Mexico (Oct. 14-15), before heading to Oceania in November.
Prism, released in Oct. 2013, is Perry’s fourth studio album. In addition to debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the album spawned another string of hit singles for the four-time Billboard Music Award winner. Two singles, “Dark Horse” and “Roar,” both peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and have sold more than six million copies in the U.S. alone.
