Guide to Comic-Con 2016: San Diego, New York, and Everything In Between

Anyone who’s been to a Comic-Con event before can tell you that it’s an unforgettable experience. From meeting your pop culture heroes to seeing mind-blowing cosplay costumes, there’s always something new to see at Comic-Con each year. This is the perfect opportunity to meet and interact with some of the world’s most creative people in an environment that’s truly one-of-a-kind.

Read the guide below to get an idea of the different Comic-Cons taking place across the U.S. in 2016, including the most notable special guests and panels of each convention.

Where Is Comic-Con?

In 2016, Comic-Con will be held in Philadelphia (June 2-5), Denver (June 17-19), San Diego (July 20-24), New York (Oct. 6-9), and Rhode Island (Nov. 11-13).

Colorado Convention Center - Denver, CO


One of the newer comic conventions in the states, Denver Comic-Con launched in 2016. In its fourth year, Comic-Con Denver will bring a roster of talented actors, comic book artists, and writers to the Colorado Convention Center, including favorites like John Barrowman, Cary Elwes, and Stan Lee.

Notable guests: Morena Baccarin (Firefly), Allen Bellman, John Barrowman (Doctor Who, Torchwood), Cyanide and Happiness, Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), Clark Gregg (Iron Man, The Avengers), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Barbara Randall Kesel, Stan Lee

Getting there: A variety of free street parking and paid lots and garages are available throughout downtown Denver. Public transit is also an option, as bus and light rail run near the convention center. There are also bike-sharing programs with stations throughout the city.


New York Comic-Con 2016

Comic-Con New York is the biggest comics convention on the East Coast, and that’s why this annual event is one of the best events for diehard comics lovers to attend. In addition to a big floor with comics memorabilia, NYCC also boasts a wide and diverse collection of major figures in nerd culture.

Getting there: Lots of paid parking is available in the area around the Javits Center if you choose to drive to NYCC. Like Denver, New York has bike-sharing services with a station near the convention center. Public transportation via the bus and subway will also take fans to the convention.


Wizard World Philadelphia 2016

Hosted by Wizard World, Philadelphia Comic-Con is one of the more pop culture-focused conventions on this list. In 2016 the event has tabbed some major stars for the early summer event, including Marvel icons like Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Hiddleston. A fair number of well-known animators and writers are also on tap for Philly Comic-Con in 2016.

Notable guests: Bob Camp (Ren and Stimpy), John Cena (WWE), David Duchovny (The X-Files), Chris Evans (Captain America), Glenn Fabry (Batman), Dean Haspiel (American Splendor), Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers), Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future)

Getting there: If you’re hoping to drive to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, there is parking available throughout downtown Philly. You should be able to find a paid spot in a garage or lot within walking distance of the convention center. This downtown venue is also accessible by plenty of public transit options from within and outside of the city.


Rhode Island Comic-Con 2016

Another major East Coast convention is Rhode Island Comic-Con. This event also launched in 2012, and it has grown into a major fall event at the Dunkin Donuts Center. 

Notable guests: Neal Adams (Superman, Green Arrow), Kenny Baker (Star Wars), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Summer Glau (Firefly, Arrow), Stan Lee, Anthony Mackie (Captain America)

Getting there: Parking garages are located just next to the Dunkin Donuts Center, and you should be able to find spots on the day of the convention in and around these on-site parking areas.


San Diego Comic-Con 2016

San Diego Comic-Con International is one of the largest and most popular comics and pop culture conventions in the United States, and for good reason. This annual event was founded in 1970 and always showcases the best performers, writers, and artists across film, television, video games, anime, and, of course, comics.

Notable guests: Derf Backderf (Trashed, My Friend Dahmer), Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant!), Emily Carroll (Through the Woods), Jonathan Case (The New Deal, Batman ‘66), Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, Patience), Lisa Hanawalt (Bojack Horseman), Stan Lee

Getting there: Parking permits are required to park in the on-site lots at the San Diego Convention Center. Other nearby parking may be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also shuttle buses and other public transit options that may be available for the full weekend.
