The Zion Effect
Zion Williamson is special.
The 6-foot-7, 284-pound forward for Duke is a physical marvel who entered the college hoops scene with perhaps more buzz than any incoming freshman basketball player ever.
After all, Williamson, whose every gravity-defying dunk were documented for the last two years of his high school career, is a bona fide star, boasting 2.3 Million Twitter followers—more than many NBA teams.
The "Zion Effect" has manifested in tickets as well.
For the 2018-2019 season, fans are traveling further to watch Duke play than ever before, with a median distance traveled of 469 miles. When Willianson and Duke hit the road, it's a major attraction for college hoops fans.
"He's the one that dazzles us the most," Duke fan Rick Steedle told Adam Zagoria.
College hoops fans and world famous rappers: Brooklyn native Jay-Z was spotted sitting courtside when Duke traveled to face Pittsburgh last month.
