Touring and New York Productions of Chicago the Musical Continue in 2014
After more than five years on the road, the North American tour of Chicago the Musical is still going strong with upcoming performances on tap for more than 10 cities in 2014. One of the highlights of the ongoing tour will be the week the production spends in its namesake Midwest city, where the show will play at the Bank of America Theatre from Feb. 25 through March 2. Other cities pegged for the trek include Norfolk, Va. (Feb. 14-16), Biloxi, Miss. (March 7-9), and Denver (March 18-23). As of Feb. 11, Toronto (March 26-30) is the last city with confirmed dates, but there has been no announcement that the tour will end after those performances are completed.
In New York, Chicago still stands as Broadway’s third longest-running production—and the longest-running revival of any production—with more than 7,100 performances completed since it opened in 1996. Currently, fans can see the show at New York’s Ambassador Theatre. On Jan. 14, Bebe Neuwirth—who won a Tony Award for playing Velma Kelly in the opening run of the revival—returned to the production as Matron “Mama” Morton. She will remain in the role at least through March 9.
