Celtics Claim the Northeast
The defending champion Boston Celtics have a sizable geographic reach in the Northeast compared to their counterparts. Entering the 2024-25 season, the Celtics’ fan domain stretches beyond Massachusetts into Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Showdown in Texas
The San Antonio Spurs may boast a No. 1 draft pick with Victor Wembanyama, but they have to share the Lone Star State with a few other teams that dominate different regions within the state. The Dallas Mavericks own the counties surrounding Dallas, while the Houston Rockets are prevalent in the eastern part of the state. Near the Oklahoma border, the fan base shifts toward Oklahoma City Thunder territory.
The Clippers Step Out of the Lakers Shadow
Analyzing Southern California NBA ticket sales data, the L.A. Clippers are making inroads into growing its fan base thanks to stars like Kawhi Leonard and James Harden choosing to join the team. The Clippers are also leaving the Crypto.com Arena, which it shares with the Lakers, for a flashy new area in Inglewood.
Undivided Loyalty
While some states have fans cheering for multiple teams, there are a few where every county in the state backs the same one. In Arizona, all 15 counties show unwavering support for the Phoenix Suns, and in Massachusetts, all 14 counties stand behind the Celtics.
